Section 3 Educational Linguistics
Spokesperson: Dietmar RöslerEducational Linguistics at the Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU) comprises research and teaching activities which focus on the reciprocal relationship between linguistic concepts and models and the analysis of the processes involved in language acquisition and language pedagogy. The Departments of English, German, Romance, Slavic and Turkish studies as well as linguists and language acquisition researchers of all philologies have been cooperating successfully in the context of Educational Linguistics for several years. Three research areas are of particular interest to the ZMI Section:
- aspects of language policy and language pedagogy which are relevant to concepts of multilingualism and the construction of identity through language
- the use of digital media, computerized corpora and other computational-linguistic technologies for the analysis of language as well as for the teaching and learning of languages
- the description and analysis of language acquisition in general and of language use in the classroom (with a special focus on the distinction between medial orality and literacy)
